Air filter replacement

Regular replacement of the engine air filter in a vehicle is necessary for several reasons:

  • Increasing Engine Efficiency: The air filter cleans the air entering the combustion chamber from dust and dirt. Clean air is essential for the efficient combustion of the fuel-air mixture. If the filter is dirty and there is a lack of air, the engine significantly loses power. Of course, the electronic control unit will try to adjust the mixture, but it is not a magician — with active use of the gas pedal, the mixture will be enriched, meaning oversaturated with fuel.
  • Stable Engine Operation at Idle: If smooth vibrations and unusual noises similar to popping are heard while the engine is idling, it means that the air intake into the engine is insufficient, and therefore, the air filter needs to be replaced.
  • Reduction of Harmful Emissions: A dirty air filter can lead to incomplete combustion of fuel, increasing the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Black smoke or flame from the exhaust pipe occurs as a result of the engine being fed a fuel-rich mixture that does not burn completely before entering the exhaust system, resulting in the excess being expelled as black soot-like sediment.
  • Increasing Engine Lifespan: Dirty air entering the engine can settle on internal parts, cylinders, and pistons, which over time can lead to a decrease in the efficiency of these components and their premature wear. In extreme cases, the engine may fail due to the entry of abrasive dust and dirt particles, which mercilessly wear out engine parts over time.
  • Improving the general condition of other elements: If the filter is clogged with dirt, spark plugs, catalytic converters, and particulate filters are the first to suffer. The culprit is deposits that begin to form due to incomplete combustion of fuel.
  • Optimizing the Performance of Airflow Sensors: Many modern vehicles are equipped with mass airflow sensors, which measure the amount of air entering the engine to optimize mixture formation and combustion. A dirty air filter can lead to incorrect readings from these sensors, disrupting engine operation.
  • Fuel Economy: As the filter becomes clogged, the volume of air entering the engine decreases. As a result, there won't be enough air for efficient fuel combustion. In carbureted vehicles, this will lead to a sharp increase in fuel consumption. In more modern cars equipped with an oxygen sensor and an air flow meter, this won't happen, as the automation will adjust the amount of fuel supplied. However, this will result in reduced engine power.

Four common causes for the vehicle jerking when accelerating and their related parts.
This fix will help eliminating

Jerking When Accelerating

The car jerks when it's not getting enough air or fuel or if there’s a transmission problem. It's struggling to breathe or get enough gas because of dirty fuel injectors, clogged air filters, or worn spark plugs. Plus, when the transmission has trouble changing gears smoothly, it can give the car a bumpy ride.

To understand why the car jerks while accelerating, it's recommended to seek the expertise of a qualified professional. They have the knowledge and experience to diagnose the underlying cause accurately.

A car jerking when accelerating needs proper care. By addressing the jerking issue promptly, you can avoid further complications and enjoy the open road with confidence.
